Structural Heart Interventions

Structural heart interventions are minimally invasive procedures used to treat abnormalities involving the valves, chambers and other structural components of the heart. These procedures use catheter-based techniques to address selected conditions without conventional open-heart surgery.

Structural heart procedures may include transcatheter aortic valve implantation, device-based closure of selected congenital heart defects and other specialised catheter interventions. The appropriate procedure depends on the underlying condition, severity of disease, anatomy and overall clinical assessment.

These procedures generally involve specialised imaging and careful procedural planning. A multidisciplinary assessment may be required to determine whether a catheter-based intervention is appropriate and to select the most suitable technique for the individual patient.
