Rotablation & Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) Procedures

Some coronary blockages are particularly challenging because of extensive calcium, long-standing complete occlusion or complex vessel anatomy. Advanced coronary intervention techniques can be used in appropriately selected patients when conventional angioplasty alone may not be sufficient.

Rotational atherectomy, commonly referred to as rotablation, uses a specialised rotating device to modify heavily calcified plaque within a coronary artery. This can help prepare the vessel for subsequent balloon angioplasty and stent placement when clinically indicated.

Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO) intervention is used to treat coronary arteries that have remained completely blocked for an extended period. These procedures can require specialised guidewires, dedicated equipment and carefully planned catheter techniques. Treatment suitability depends on symptoms, coronary anatomy, heart function and the expected clinical benefit.
