Pacemaker, ICD, CRT-D & CRT-P Implantation

Cardiac implantable electronic devices are used to manage a range of heart rhythm conditions. Depending on the patient's condition, a pacemaker, implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD), cardiac resynchronisation therapy pacemaker (CRT-P) or cardiac resynchronisation therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) may be considered.

Pacemakers are designed to help maintain an appropriate heart rate when the heart beats too slowly or when the electrical conduction system of the heart is unable to maintain a reliable rhythm. ICDs provide protection against certain potentially dangerous ventricular arrhythmias by monitoring the heart rhythm and delivering therapy when required.

CRT devices are used in selected patients with heart failure and electrical conduction abnormalities. By coordinating the contraction of the heart's chambers, cardiac resynchronisation therapy may improve the efficiency of cardiac contraction in appropriately selected patients. Device selection and programming are based on the individual clinical and electrophysiological requirements.
